Obituary: Kiarin Hoarau (1947 – 2012)

From drummer to manager

It is with great sadness that we have heard of the sad demise of our dear friend, Kiarin Hoarau, quite a popular figure who has steered his way to the top from being once a drummer to becoming managing director of FoodPro in which capacity he has contributed enormously towards the local production of meat products.

Description: The band ‘Cliff & The Night Shades’ which Kiarin (drummer) formed part. The other members were (from left) Regis Hoareau (lead), Clifford Adam (bass and main singer) and France Hoareau (rhythm)

I feel proud to have once associated myself with Kiarin, first as his teacher at Seychelles College in 1961 and later in 1965 as drummer in the band ‘Cliff & The Night Shades’, which I had the honour to found  and manage for quite a few years.

Kiarin loved music and had a real zest and passion for life which, unfortunately, came to a premature and abrupt end.

We shall long remember him for his suave, gentle manners, his readiness to help, his friendliness and simplicity and above all, his entrepreneurial qualities which have made him a very successful businessman at FoodPro.

Our thoughts and prayers are, at this difficult time, with his wife, Petronella, his twin daughters, Kiera and Kimberley, his two sisters abroad, Miette and Marie-Lise and his staff at FoodPro. We all share their grief over this great loss and we offer them our deepest sympathy.

John L. Adam
